Spotlight on our Of Counsel, J. David Reed
J. David Reed joined Dufford Waldeck's new Montrose office in May of 2022. David brings a vibrant legal practice to our firm, having practiced in the Montrose area for 30+ years. David practices general civil, commercial, corporate, special district, and municipal law across southwestern Colorado. Along with his expertise in transactions and estate planning, David has a reputation for providing second-to-none legal counsel.
Giving back to the community is in David's blood. David was the former Mayor of Montrose and he served as Chairman of the Colorado Mesa University Board of Trustees. His other board appointments include the Montrose Community Foundation, Montrose County School District School Board, and Montrose City Council. David brings thoughtful, effective leadership to the Montrose community.
David and his wife, Debbie, brought up their daughter Kate in Montrose. Kate was the youngest member of the U. S. Ski Team, traveled the world as a World Cup athlete, and is a former U.S. National Champion in Freestyle Aerials. She married Brian, also a former U. S. Ski Team member, and together they have two children, Ryder and Landry, who are also keen skiers. Apart from being proud parents and grandparents David and Debbie are also passionate animal lovers and have two white German Shepherds, Rio and Jacob, who keep them on their toes.
Growing up in the south, David completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Louisiana and went on to pursue a Juris Doctor at South Texas College of Law - Houston, where he graduated magna cum laude. Additionally, David was an Order of the Lytae E. E. Townes Scholar and a recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award. He is licensed to practice law in Colorado and Texas.
David will be working with attorney Tom Long, and legal assistant, Pam Belisle, in our new location to help strengthen Dufford Waldeck’s presence in southwestern Colorado.
