Litigation/Trials/Appeals
Born in Kentucky and reared in Katy, Texas, Willie completed a degree in English and worked in book publishing on the East Coast before pursuing his law degree. But when it came time to apply to law firms, he was interested only in western Colorado. "I like the mix of people who end up here," he says. "Western Colorado is an abundant placeāin its public lands, natural resources, big spaces, and colorful and independent people."
Willie has a special interest in civil litigation. "I enjoy the social side of litigation, working with the people involved, assembling the facts, negotiating, crafting arguments, and helping clients resolve their disputes." He considers his experience as judicial intern in a Denver civil courtroom particularly valuable. "Not only did I see a wide variety of trials and how various attorneys worked, but I also got the judge's perspective. I saw how the judge approached his decisions."
Like many who move here, Willie got to know and love western Colorado while vacationing and recreating here, hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. He is married and has a young son.
